Inside the clarifier solid contaminants will settle down to the bottom of the tank where it is collected by a scraper mechanism and removed by another centrally located pipe. With thickened tailings, tailings and liquid are combined with a floculant to create a mix that is thicker than the traditional mix or water and tailings called "slurry."
