Le «foehn» ou, du suisse allemand, «föhn», est un vent chaud et sec qui se développe par l'affaissement de l'air après le passage d'un relief. Habituellement, le vent se développe du côté sud de la montagne où il provoque nébulosité et pluies puis, traversant vers le nord où l'atmosphère devient parfaitement claire mais l'air lourd, desséché et chaud, fait grimper la température de 10 °C pendant le jour alors qu'il gèle la nuit.
