The Working Group on Cultural Heritage, chaired by Mexico, looks at both tangible and intangible heritage. The role of cultural heritage within the larger cultural and social agenda has been acknowledged by many international organizations. Cultural heritage can be loosely defined as an aspect of cultural diversity, a touchstone of identify, a source of income and employment, and a form of cultural capital. The effective management of cultural heritage can help to reduce poverty, promote social inclusion, and increase civic participation.
