CONT

There is some confusion concerning the terms "cage culture" and "pen culture" in fish farming. ... Both cage and pen culture are types of enclosure culture, and involve holding organisms captive within an enclosed space whilst maintaining a free exchange of water. The two methods, however, are distinct from one another. A cage is totally enclosed on all, or all but the top, sides by mesh or netting, whereas in pen culture the bottom of the enclosure is formed by the lake or sea bottom ...

CONT

DEF

Fish culture in rice fields.

CONT

Inundated rice fields always have a small population of fish which gain access with the water, and this probably gave rise to the practise of deliberate stocking and harvesting. The trapping of shrimp larvae in fallow rice fields and growing to market size is an old age-old practice and still exists in parts in India. It is believed that rice-field culture was introduced into Southeast Asia from India about 1500 years ago Tamura, 1961).

CONT
