L'idée d'utiliser la force que représente le vide n'est pas nouvelle. [...] L'origine de l'utilisation de la ventouse obstétricale semble devoir être attribuée à Yonge de Plymouth (Angleterre) qui en 1705 décrivit un instrument en verre qu'il baptisa "vacuum". Depuis de nombreux instruments furent proposés. En 1954, Maltröm de Gothembourg (Suède) mit au point et utilisa le " vacuum extractor " dont le succès déborda bientôt son pays d'origine.
