The generic drugs, Vincristine (VCR) and Vinblastine (VLB), alkaloids currently extracted from the periwinkle plant, Catharanthus roseus, possess significant antitumor activity. VCR and VLB have been used widely as single agents and in combination with other anti-neoplastic drugs in cancer chemotherapy for more than 30 years.

El uso de quimioterapia en [el tratamiento del sarcoma de] Kaposi ha ido disminuyendo al mejorar la utilización de fármacos antirretrovirales combinados. Se emplea comúnmente vincristina y bleomicina. Ahora se sabe que no debe usarse adriamicina, ya que el pronóstico de los pacientes que la utilizaron fue peor, con reactivaciones graves. Otra combinación muy usual es bleomicina, vincristina y vinblastina.

ABV: siglas en inglés de tres medicamentos: adriamicina, bleomicina y vinblastina. Esta combinación produce efectos [secundarios] como la baja en el número de elementos de la sangre: leucopenia, anemia y trombocitopenia; pérdida temporal del cabello, náusea, diarrea, fatiga ocasional y fiebre.
