VORTICIDAD RELATIVA [3 records]

Record 1 2015-07-15

English

Subject field(s)
  • Meteorology
DEF

Vorticity measured in an absolute co-ordinate system. In nearly all cases only the vertical component is implied.

OBS

The absolute vorticity is the sum of the relative vorticity and the vorticity of the Earth (i.e., the Coriolis parameter).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Météorologie
DEF

Record 2 2010-04-19

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric Physics
DEF

Vorticity (usually the vertical component) measured in a system of coordinates fixed on the Earth's surface.

OBS

Relative Vorticity is sometimes also referred to as the "local vorticity". Vorticity is a vector measure of local rotation in a fluid flow, defined mathematically as the curl of the velocity vector ... In meteorology, "the vorticity" usually refers to the vertical component of the vorticity.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique de l'atmosphère
DEF

Record 3 2003-08-01

English

Subject field(s)
  • Scientific Measurements and Analyses
  • Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics (Physics)
  • Atmospheric Physics
DEF

Half of the square of the relative vorticity.

CONT

The term was popularized by C. Leith and is based on the modern Greek, meaning act of turning. Enstrophy is a conservative quantity in two-dimensional inviscid flow. However, when viscosity is finite, enstrophy tends to be selectively decayed relative to more rugged integrals such as energy and angular momentum.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mesures et analyse (Sciences)
  • Mécanique des fluides et hydraulique (Physique)
  • Physique de l'atmosphère
DEF

Moitié du carré du tourbillon relatif.

CONT

Entrophie.

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)
  • Medición y análisis (Ciencias)
  • Mecánica de fluidos e hidráulica (Física)
  • Física de la atmósfera
DEF

Mitad del cuadrado de la vorticidad relativa.
