The meteorological optical range is the length of path in the atmosphere required to reduce the luminous flux in a collimated beam from an incandescent lamp, at a colour temperature of 2700 K, to 5% of its original value, the luminous flux being evaluated by means of the photometric luminosity function of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE). 3, record 1, English, - meteorological%20optical%20range

La portée optique météorologique ou POM, actuellement communiquée aux usagers aéronautiques, est la visibilité au sens météorologique. Elle caractérise l'atmosphère et est une mesure de sa transparence. Elle ne dépend pas de l'alternance jour/nuit et ne fait pas intervenir la détection de sources lumineuses. C'est une visibilité par contraste.
