The IDA was formed in 1916 at the request of the Canadian Government to assist in the financing of Canada's war effort. Dealers in Toronto and Montreal united to form the Association under the name, the Bond Dealers' Association of Canada. ... The Association's name was changed in 1925 to the Investment Bankers' Association of Canada and the present name was adopted following the 1934 Bank Act revision which restricted the use of the term "bank".
