L'Association internationale des aumôniers de prison (IPCA) a pris naissance lors d'une conférence des aumôniers de prison, qui s'est déroulée dans une ambiance unique d'échange spirituel au Centre œcuménique de Bossey, en Suisse. Des aumôniers du monde entier s'y sont réunis en 1985 et en 1990, ainsi qu'à Aylmer (Québec), au Canada, en 1995.
