Osmotic pumps consist of an inner core containing drug and osmogens, coated with a semipermeable membrane. As the core absorbs water, it expands in volume, which pushes the drug solution out through the delivery ports.

Les pompes osmotiques. Ce sont en fait des petits réservoirs où le principe actif est contenu dans un noyau non digestible et recouvert d'une membrane semi-perméable. Le comprimé a une petite ouverture percée au laser. Dans le tractus gastro-intestinal, l'eau traverse la membrane par osmose, disperse le médicament et l'expulse par l'ouverture à un débit constant.
