Souvent confondue avec les persiennes, la jalousie s'apparente plus au rideau ou au store repliable alors que les persiennes prennent la forme de volets ou de panneaux rigides mais articulés tels des battants. La jalousie se fixe à l'intérieur de l'ouverture à protéger, alors que les persiennes se fixent de part et d'autre de l'ouverture.
