El Código de Nuremberg (1946), plantea que no es suficiente la ciencia, ni siquiera la buena ciencia, para garantizar la rectitud moral de la investigación. La ciencia natural por sí sola es incapaz de resolver la cuestión ética. La experimentación que se ha llevado a cabo sobre seres humanos, está particularmente obligada a someterse a las normas universales del respeto al hombre.
