One result of the Canadian parliamentary reforms implemented during the 1980s was the establishment of the Standing Committee on National Defence in 1986. This was a significant change because, prior to this date, defence policy had been examined by the Standing Committee on External Affairs and National Defence. In 1989, veterans issues were added to the mandate of the Committee, now renamed the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs. In 5 April 2006, at the beginning of the 39th Parliament, the House of Commons adopted a motion which amended its Standing Orders to, among other things, establish a Standing Committee on National Defence and a Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs. 1, record 1, English, - Standing%20Committee%20on%20Veterans%20Affairs

1, record 1, French, - Comit%C3%A9%20permanent%20des%20anciens%20combattants
