Tipo de estratificación cruzada a pequeña escala, formada por la deposición rápida de sedimentos como bucles de cresta sinuosa o recta que migran lentamente. A veces se denomina estratificación de movimiento de bucles.

En el caso de la laminación de ripples se distinguen la originada por ripples de corriente, de la de ripples de oscilación o de oleaje. La estratificación cruzada es similar a la laminación, pero con geometría de mayores dimensiones.
