Familia: Laridae [...] Gaviota Prieta (Chlidonias niger). Se puede encontrar desde el centro este de Alaska, Manitoba central y sur de Ontario hasta el norte de California, Colorado, el norte de Missouri y Tennessee, también a las orillas de los lagos del norte de Ohio, Pensilvania y Nueva York, [pasa] los inviernos de Surinam a Perú y Chile. Características. Es la única golondrina marina con el cuerpo negro. Presenta variación en el plumaje por edades y estacional. En reproducción presentan el plumaje negro mientras que en el plumaje alternativo presentan la cabeza y cuello color blanco, la corona es negra, las partes inferiores son color gris ahumado, el pico es negro y las patas son color rojo oscuro.
