Infertilidad e infecundidad son expresiones de distintos fenómenos, aunque en el campo de las tecnologías reproductivas sean dos conceptos íntimamente conectados. La infecundidad es la ausencia de hijos. Una mujer, un hombre o una pareja infecunda es la que no tiene hijos. La infecundidad puede ser voluntaria o involuntaria. En el primer caso, la ausencia de hijos es parte de un proyecto personal o conyugal y no se muestra como problema biomédico.
