The order of image storage is typically by scanlines, progressing from left to right along scanlines, and then from top to bottom from one scan to the next. Some GIS systems use raster image structure.

La urdimbre es algo así como el esqueleto del tejido: consta de numerosos hilos que tienen aproximadamente la longitud de la futura pieza de tela y se hallan yuxtapuestos paralelamente, en forma de una cinta de la anchura del tejido. La trama no puede ser preparada de la misma manera y consiste en un solo hilo que se hace pasar por entre los hilos de la urdimbre, perpendicularmente a los mismos, de un borde a otro del tejido, primeramente en un sentido y luego en la dirección opuesta, y así sucesivamente.
