By resolution 827 (1993) of 25 May 1993, the Security Council established the ICTY for the sole purpose of prosecuting persons responsible for serious violations of international humanitarian law committed in the territory of the former Yugoslavia during its breakup and subsequent conflicts. By resolution 2329 (2016), the Council extended the terms of office of the President and the judges of the ICTY and reappointed the Prosecutor for the last time. Par sa résolution 827 (1993) du 25 mai 1993, le Conseil de sécurité a créé le Tribunal pénal international pour l'ex‑Yougoslavie dans le seul but de juger les personnes présumées responsables de violations graves du droit international humanitaire commises sur le territoire de l'ex‑Yougoslavie durant son éclatement et les conflits qui s'en sont suivis. Par la résolution 2329 (2016), il a prorogé le mandat du Président et des juges du Tribunal et reconduit, pour une dernière fois, le Procureur dans ses fonctions.
