OBS

«Wampum» provient du mot algonquin «wampompeag» qui veut dire «perles blanches». On appelle aussi wampum les colliers, les ceintures et les autres objets fabriqués de perles de coquillages marin. C'est sur les wampums que les Amérindiens écrivaient leur histoire. Les wampums servaient de parchemins, de monnaie d'échange, de cadeaux et étaient utilisés pour sceller une alliance, signer un traité.
