The bay bolete has a reddish-brown to yellow-brown, smooth, convex to flat cap 1.25 to 4 inches across, sticky to dry. The flesh slowly bruises purplish brown. Bolet bai. [...] Le chapeau, hémisphérique lorsque le sujet est jeune puis s'aplatissant avec l'âge, est d'un beau bai-brun, velouté par temps sec et légèrement visqueux par temps humide. La chair est blanc-jaunâtre, très ferme puis mollissant avec l'âge. Les pores très serrés sont jaune pâle, jaune-verdâtre, bleuissant puis noircissant au toucher.
