A wing in which a spanwise reference line lies to the rear of the normal to the plane of symmetry.

CONT

Swept-wing is a wing planform common on jet aircraft capable of near-sonic or supersonic speeds. The wings are swept back instead of being set at right angles to the fuselage, the latter being common on propeller-driven aircraft and low-speed jet aircraft. This is a useful drag-reducing measure for aircraft flying just below the speed of sound, though straight wings are still favored for slower cruise and landing speeds and aircraft with long range or endurance.

The sweepback wing is the wing of choice for most high-speed airplanes made today. Sweep wings create less drag, but are somewhat more unstable at low speeds. The high-sweep wing delays the formation of shock waves on the airplane as it nears the speed of sound. The amount of sweep of the wing depends on the purpose of the airplane.

The flèche is a running attack executed in the following manner: 1. The arm is extended with opposition, the point directed at the target. 2. The weight is shifted from the left to the right leg, and the left foot is brought up to a position slightly in front of the right foot. 3. From this position, the arm and shoulder stretch out as far as they will go, the body inclines forward until it is almost off-balance, and the distance is closed with a rush, preventing the opponent from riposting.

Just about anything that works for aft-swept wings can be applied to forward swept wings, but the spanwise distribution of flow and turbulence is reversed. Thus, where the aft-swept wing induces pitch-up as the tips stall at high angles of attack, the tips of the forward-swept wing retain good airflow and the root tends to become turbulent.

Les avantages de l'aile en flèche inverse sont multiples. En effet cette aile permet à l'appareil d'être très agile et permet aussi des vitesses de décollage et d'atterrissage très faible, car la vitesse de décrochage de l'avion est très faible. Mais cette aile offre aussi une traînée plus faible qu'une aile classique, et ainsi permet à l'appareil d'avoir un réacteur moins puissant (donc consommant moins de carburant) et donc être plus petit, pour avoir les mêmes performances que celles d'un appareil doté d'une voilure classique.
