Como se ve, a diferencia de las abreviaturas, que son siempre acortamientos gráficos de la palabra que desarrollan (tel., de teléfono), los símbolos son invariables en plural y no llevan punto abreviativo.

A unit used with the Si for measuring volume or capacity, equal to one cubic decimetre.

OBS

One litre of water has a mass of one kilogram. The litre is used for measuring liquids and other products such as ice cream and fruit, and for measuring the capacity of containers such as gas tanks, cooking pots, jugs, and baskets.

OBS

The international symbol for litre is the upright lower-case letter "l." The capital letter "L" should be used only when there is a risk of confusion (to distinguish it from the numeral "1").

"curie": A unit of radioactivity, defined as 3.7 X 1010 disintegrations per second exactly. It was originally defined as the amount of radon in equilibrium with 1 g of radium, but this definition has now been superseded.

The international symbol for litre is the upright lower-case letter "l". However, the capital letter "L" has been adopted as the official symbol in Canada because the lower-case letter can be confused in printing with the numeral "l".

Les déchets peuvent présenter des activité très diverses; on les classe en déchets de haute, de moyenne ou de faible activité, mais il faut noter que les distinctions ne sont pas toujours nettes : si, par haute activité, on désigne des concentrations de centaines ou de milliers de Ci/l, (curies par litre; 1 Ci = 3,7 X 1010 désintégrations par seconde) et par faible activité des concentrations de l'ordre du mCi/l, on trouve entre ces cas extrêmes toute une gamme de déchets d'activités intermédiaires.

OBS

L'unité actuellement adoptée pour l'activité, dans le système international, est le becquerel (Bq), mais elle n'est pas encore très utilisée en pratique et l'on continue à utiliser le curie (Ci).
