The history of COMESA began in December 1994 when it was formed to replace the Preferential Trade Area (PTA) which had existed from the earlier days of 1981. ... The Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which included the Caribbean Common Market, was established by the Treaty of Chaguaramas in 1973. CARICOM replaced the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA), which ceased to exist on May 1,1974. Under the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas, 2001, the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) was established.

The term "Common Market" has been in general use to describe the EC since the signing of the Rome Treaty in 1956 that created the European Economic Community ... EC is the short form for European Communities, which in a geographic sense includes its 12 member states (Belgium, Denmark, France, Federal Republic of Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom) and in an institutional sense embraces the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), the European Economic Community (EEC) and the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom).

Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The General Treaty for Central American Integration (known as the Managua Treaty) was signed in 1960, and entered into force in 1961 for four countries. Costa Rica joined the Treaty in 1963. It provided for immediate free trade on 95 percent of all goods. In October 1961, the Permanent Secretariat for Economic Integration - DIECA - was established in Guatemala. SIECA along with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE), which is headquartered in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, have been the main regional institutions responsible for the administration of the economic integration efforts in Central America.

The highest organ of MERCOSUR is the Council of the Common Market (CMC), in charge of the political aspects of the integration process. It is a decision-making body which seeks to assure the fulfilment of the objectives established by the Treaty of Asunción and the final implementation of the common market. It convenes at least once every six months and consists of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and the Ministers of the Economy of the Parties, or their equivalents.

Quant à la structure organisationnelle ou administrative du MERCOSUR prévue au chapitre II, elle reposait au départ sur deux instances : le Conseil du Marché commun (CMC) qui est l'instance de coordination et le Groupe du Marché commun (GMC) qui est l'instance exécutive. Le Conseil se compose des présidents ainsi que des ministres de l'Économie (ou des Finances) et des Affaires étrangères de chaque pays. La présidence se fait, par alternance, tous les six mois. Le groupe voit à l'exécution des dispositions du Traité et des décisions du Conseil. Le siège social du Groupe est à Montevideo (Uruguay).

Trading Union comprised of the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, designed to promote free trade, a common customs policy in relation to other countries and a coordinated economic policy especially in key sectors. Created in 1991 by the Asunción Treaty.

Founded in March 1991 by the Treaty of Asunción between Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay which commits the signatories to the progressive reduction of tariffs culminating in the formation of a common market of 1 Jan. 1995. The member states' foreign ministers form a council responsible for political questions, the chairmanship of which takes decisions by consensus. There is an arbitration tribunal whose decisions are binding on member countries.
