An exchange rate regime which normally insulates a country from the balance of payments effects of capital flows while it maintains a stable exchange rate for current account transactions. Capital transactions are normally required to pass through a "financial" market while current transactions go through an "official" market, though other arrangements are possible. Examples are found in Belgium and the United Kingdom, though France and Italy have experimented with such systems. 3, record 1, English, - dual%20exchange%20market

A 1968 agreement ... froze the gold in the official reserves of individual nations ... Under the agreement, two gold markets were established. One, the official gold market, would continue to price gold at thirty-five dollars an ounce in transactions between central banks and international monetary institutions; the other, the free market, would operate at supply and demand prices, with gold seeking its own level ... The need for such an agreement came to an end in 1971 ... 3, record 2, English, - two%2Dtier%20gold%20system
