When switching from a traditional defined-benefit plan to a cash-balance plan, it's easier if the defined-benefit plan is not a final-average-pay plan. If the plan is a career-pay plan, the accrual pattern is already closer to a cash-balance type accrual pattern. If the plan is a dollar-per-month plan, or other fixed-dollar plan, the situation is similar.

Loans made by the World Bank to developing countries to reduce their debt. These loans are only made to countries with large outstanding external debts and which have adopted structural adjustment programs approved by the [World] Bank. Set-aside amounts will be determined individually but will be normally around 25% of the adjustment program over three years or 10% of the overall amount of the Bank's lending program to the country.

[On a créé] les montants compensatoires monétaires (MCM) en 1969, dans le but d'éviter que les échanges commerciaux soient faussés. Un pays dont la monnaie s'apprécie bénéficie de MCM positifs, ce qui lui permet d'étaler dans le temps la baisse de ses prix agricoles tout en évitant d'être submergé par les importations. Ces MCM tiennent, en fait, lieu de prélèvements à l'importation et de subventions à l'exportation. Inversement, lorsque la monnaie d'un pays se déprécie, des MCM négatifs jouent le rôle de subventions à l'importation et de prélèvements à l'exportation.
