OXIDO NITROGENO [3 records]

Record 1 2016-10-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Elements and Compounds
  • Pollutants
Universal entry(ies)
NOx
formula, see observation
CONT

Nitrogen oxides include the gases nitrogen oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). NOx is formed primarily from the liberation of nitrogen contained in fuel and nitrogen contained in combustion air during combustion processes.

OBS

nitrogen oxides: term standardized by Environment Canada and the Translation Bureau for use in the Air Pollutant Emission Inventory Report.

OBS

NOx: written NOx

Key term(s)
  • oxides of nitrogen
  • nitrogen oxide
  • oxide of nitrogen

French

Domaine(s)
  • Éléments et composés chimiques
  • Agents de pollution
Entrée(s) universelle(s)
NOx
formula, see observation
CONT

OBS

NOx : s'écrit NOx

Key term(s)
  • oxyde d'azote

Spanish

Campo(s) temático(s)

Entrada(s) universal(es)
NOx
formula, see observation
DEF

Key term(s)
  • óxido de nitrógeno

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Elements and Compounds
  • Air Pollution
  • Chemistry
DEF

Catalytic action of nitrogen, mainly nitric oxide, on atmospheric ozone.

CONT

It might be noted that whereas the chlorine catalysis of ozone is about six times as efficient as the nitric oxide catalysis of ozone, the conversion to "inert" hydrogen chloride is also more efficient than the conversion to "inert" nitric acid, so that the two processes are in fact comparable in overall efficiency.
