The purpose of the Enforcement and Compliance Policy for the Canadian Environmental Protection Act is to facilitate compliance with the Act. This policy established the principles for fair and consistent enforcement and tells everyone who shares a responsibility for protection of the environment - governments, industry, organized labour and individuals - what is expected of them. It also lets everyone know what to expect from Environment Canada and the officials who enforce the Canadian Environmental Protection Act and its regulations.

La présente politique d'application de la Loi canadienne sur la protection de l'environnement vise à faciliter le respect de la Loi. Elle pose les principes d'une application équitable et uniforme, et indique à tous les responsables de la protection de l'environnement, soit les gouvernements, les industries, les syndicats et les particuliers, ce qui est exigé d'eux.
