[A] grinding mill which uses grinding media, usually steel balls.

CONT

SAG mill; semi-autogenous grinding mill. A large rotating drum is filled with ore, water, and steel grinding balls. The result is a fine slurry. The mill is so named because the rock itself does some of the grinding.

OBS

The term "semi-autogenous" means that the ore acts to a certain extent as its own grinding media.

Les broyeurs semi-autogènes [...] sont semblables aux broyeurs à boulets avec un rapport L/D inférieur ou égal à 2. Les boulets sont remplacés par des morceaux de minerai préalablement calibrés. [...] On les utilise comme appareils de finissage, placés derrière un auto-broyeur intégral ou un broyeur à barres. La fragmentation est un peu plus fine que celle du même broyeur chargé de boulets d’acier.

broyeur SAG : Nous recommandons de ne pas utiliser seule l'abréviation «SAG» en français, pour éviter tout risque de confusion. À la limite, écrire «broyeur semi-autogène(«SAG») ».
