Le satellite ALOS(Advanced Land Observing Satellite) s’inscrit dans la série de satellites japonais JERS-1(Japanese Earth Resources Satellite-1) et ADEOS(Advanced Earth Observing Satellite) faisant appel aux technologies de pointe dans le domaine de l'observation de la terre. ALOS servira pour la cartographie, l'observation régionale, le suivi des catastrophes et l'évaluation des ressources. ALOS possède trois instruments de télédétection : l'instrument panchromatique PRISM(Panchromatic Remote-sensing Instrument for Stereo Mapping) pour la cartographie numérique d’altitude, le radiomètre AVNIR-2(Advanced Visible and Near Infrared Radiometer type 2) pour l'observation précise de la couverture au sol, et le capteur radar PALSAR(Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar) pour l'observation de la terre de jour et de nuit et sous toutes les conditions climatiques. 2, record 1, French, - satellite%20ALOS
