A particular type of MCS [mesoscale convective system], an MCC is a large, circular, long-lived cluster of showers and thunderstorms identified by satellite. It often emerges out of other storm types during the late-night and early-morning hours. MCCs can cover an entire state.

The area with a temperature below −52 °C must exceed 50 000 km², and there must be a continuous area, exceeding 100 000 km², below −32 °C. This larger area must be elongated, with an eccentricity (ratio of minor axis to major axis) of 0.7 or more. Heteroduplex is double-stranded DNA in which the two DNA strands do not show perfect base complementarity. When DNA is denatured, the two strands are separated. On renaturation or annealing, complementary DNA strands reassociate and form a homoduplex. However, when there is a mutation in one of the strands then a heteroduplex is formed. The electrophoretic mobility of heteroduplex in polyacrylamide gel is less than that of homoduplex, and they can be detected as an extra slow moving bands. Resolution is better in specially formulated gel matrices (Hydro-link, MDE, etc.). In fragments of under 200 bp insertions, deletions and most single base substitutions are detected. Heteroduplex analysis is mostly used combined with single confirmation analysis (SSCA) on a single gel.

As an integral part of worldwide search and rescue, NOAA [National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration] operates the Search & Rescue Satellite Aided Tracking (SARSAT) System to locate those in distress almost anywhere in the world at anytime and in most conditions. The SARSAT system uses NOAA satellites in low-earth and geostationary orbits to detect and locate aviators, mariners, and land-based users in distress. The satellites relay distress signals from emergency beacons to a network of ground stations and ultimately to the U.S. Mission Control Center (USMCC) in Suitland, Maryland. The USMCC processes the distress signal and alerts the appropriate search and rescue authorities to who is in distress and, more importantly, where they are located.

If you do not carefully control the water/moisture content of the silica gel and the mobile phase, moisture is added to or removed from the silica gel during the separation. This results in retention times that either increase (with water addition to the silica gel) or decrease (with water loss from the silica gel). ... The reseacher attempting to optimize the flash chromatography of new compounds should investigate the effect of moisture on the separation being attempted. Various glass chromatographic columns containing silica gel with different amounts of moisture can be run side by side to see which column produces the optimum results.

A number of methods are available that can detect known DNA mutations e.g. Allele specific amplification/hybridisation(ASA/H), Oligonucleotide ligation assay (OLA), and mini-sequencing just to mention a few. A common drawback for all of these methods is that they only detect mutations known in advance i.e. mutations outside the small area of detection will go undetected. If the position or nature of mutations is unknown then one must define the type of information required :Screening: Is there a mutation or not? SSCP, DGGE ... How many and where are they localised? EMC (Enzymatic Mutation Cleavage)...and CCM (Chemical Cleavage by Mismatch).
