Decision taken for the purpose of defending a company from possible takeover attempts, normally resulting in amendments to company statutes that establish a reinforced majority vote in order to approve a takeover operation. Measures include contracts with competitors and the purchase of companies operating in the same sector as the company attempting to takeover, therefore resulting in a monopoly situation in the event of purchase. Other more specific measures include golden parachutes, poison pills and even scorched earth techniques. Even if all company directors agree to such measures, certain minority shareholders may object, due to the fact that by avoiding a takeover they also lose the chance to sell their shares at a higher price. 2, record 11, English, - shark%2Drepellant%20measure

1, record 11, Spanish, - medida%20anti%2Dtibur%C3%B3n

Video produced in 1993 by Les productions A.D.L.E. inc., St. Alie d'Orford, Quebec. Married for 50 years, Auguste and Blanche have become the victims of extortion at the hands of their children. The violence escalates a few weeks before Blanche dies. The children take Auguste's money and subject him to physical and mental abuse, his grandchildren blackmail him and the rest of the family are indifferent and refuse to acknowledge his predicament. By chance, Auguste finds the help he needs to deal with his situation. Encouraged, he then helps other victims find the resources they need to end the abuse. 1, record 14, English, - Auguste%20and%20Blanche

1, record 14, French, - Auguste%20et%20Blanche

One who intentionally or unintentionally permits and encourages an alcoholic to drink or who covers up the drinking problem of the alcoholic by not following through with the consequences, e.g. lying to an employer by saying that the alcoholic is sick because of a cold and not because of alcoholism. 2, record 15, English, - enabler

It has been observed that family members and friends can also become involved in the disease [of excessive drinking] and of the ways this happens is by something called enabling (family members become enablers). 3, record 15, English, - enabler
Record number: 15, Textual support number: 1 OBS
It is to be noted that in the definition of "enabler", the connotation of "permission" can either be tacit or explicit; the French term "agent provocateur" can only render explicit permission, whereas "complice" would render implicit permission. The French term "facilitateur", which implies a positive form of help or support, would be inappropriate for cases of alcoholism, unless used facetiously or ironically. Related term: co-dependency. 2, record 15, English, - enabler

1, record 15, French, - agent%20provocateur
