The ability of some plasmids to continue replicating after bacteria cease dividing, which means that they accumulate in very large amounts (1000 genomes per cell) when the bacteria stop growing. Se réfère à la réplication des plasmides qui dans certains cas peut s’effectuer en l'absence de synthèse protéique cellulaire continue. Dans ce cas, le fait d’ajouter du chloramphénicol, à une culture bactérienne en croissance, inhibe de façon sélective, la réplication des chromosomes.
