Mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) is measured in adults and children, to the nearest 0.1 cm [centimeter], using a flexible nonstretch tape laid at the midpoint between the acromion and olecranon processes on the shoulder blade and the ulna, respectively, of the arm ... MUAC is a measure of the sum of the muscle and subcutaneous fat in the upper arm. In severe malnutrition both fat and muscle are reduced in the upper arm. ... MUAC can be used as an indicator of body composition in adults and children. Since MUAC increases little between the age of 6 months and 5 years, it can be used in preschool children as an age-independent screening tool for severe malnutrition. 6, record 4, English, - mid%2Dupper%20arm%20circumference

The game of curling is played with circular curling stones made of granite. Very precise specifications govern the size and shape of the rocks. No curling stone shall be greater in weight than 44 pounds (19.95 kilograms) or greater in circumference than 36 inches (91.44 centimeters), which means a diameter of 11.46 inches (29.19 centimeters). The height of a stone shall not be less than 4.5 inches (11.4 centimeters). The part of the stone that is held during the delivery is called the handle. The striking edge is a band around the circumference where one rock contacts another. The bottom of the curling rock does not entirely contact the ice surface. In fact, the stone is ground like a shallow cup on the bottom so only the lip of the cup is actually in contact with the ice. This riding surface, or cup, is 5 inches in diameter and 1/8 inch wide. 8, record 35, English, - curling%20rock

8, record 35, French, - pierre%20de%20curling

A thermal relief valve is similar to a regular system relief valve; however, such valves are installed in parts of the hydraulic system where fluid pressure is trapped and may need to be relieved because of the increase caused by higher temperatures. During the flight of an airplane, it is quite likely that fluid in many of the hydraulic lines will be at a low temperature. When the airplane lands, this cold fluid will be trapped in the landing-gear system, the flap system, and other systems, because selector valves are in the neutral or OFF position. The fluid-temperature increase owing to warm air on the ground results in fluid expansion and could cause damage unless thermal relief valves are adjusted to pressures which are above those required for the operation of the systems; hence they do not interfere with normal operation. 2, record 37, English, - thermal%20relief%20valve

The surface of the grinding rolls may be either corrugated or smooth. Break rolls are always corrugated with the grooves running in a spiral along the length of the roll. When the rolls are turning, the corrugations cross each other and this imparts a cutting and shearing action to the material between them. The slower roll tends to hold the stock (whole or partly broken kernels), while the faster roll scrapes endosperm from it. The number of corrugations increases with successive breaking stages. The rolls used for breaking the wheat, that is the first break rolls, have 4 to 5 corrugations per centimetre of roll circumference whereas the last break passage may be 11 to 12 corrugations per centimetre. 1, record 63, English, - corrugated

Trees up to five inches in trunk diameter are normally supported by guying with the wires attached to stakes, these guy wires spaced at 120-degree angles. Wires may be fastened to the tree in the same manners already discussed, although in this instance all attachment point should be at least six inches apart. Attachment should be as high in the tree as practical and certainly at or above the lowest branches. Again, guy wires should be attached to stakes driven 18 inches into undisturbed soil. The axis of the stake should be in line with the axis of the pull on the guy wire. 3, record 78, English, - guying
Record number: 78, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Most large trees and shrubs require support staking or guying to hold them erect against buffeting winds. Wood or metal stakes are usual for single-trunked trees up to 3 inches in caliper and provide better support if used in pairs. Guy wiring with turnbuckles is used for anchoring large plant materials, and guy placement ordinarily follows either a triangular or rectangular pattern around the main stem. Both types of support require regular inspection for proper tauntness--up to a year for woody plants .... 2, record 78, English, - guying

1, record 78, French, - haubanage

The parabola and the hyperbola, together with the ellipse and the circle, make up the family of conic sections, so called because each can be obtained by slicing a circular cone with a plane at various angles. Conic sections became objects of intense interest in the seventeenth century, first when the German astronomer Johannes Kepler determined that planets, comets and other bodies orbit the sun in elliptical paths, and later when Newton discovered that those bodies may also follow parabolic and hyperbolic orbits. 5, record 84, English, - conic%20section
