A soil-sampling procedure to determine the number of blows by a drive hammer, freely falling a distance of 30 inches per blow, needed to drive a standard sampling spoon 1 foot. The first 6 to 7 inches of penetration is disregarded, but the blows required to drive the sample the ensuing foot are counted. 1, record 1, English, - standard%20penetration%20test

3, record 1, French, - Standard%20Penetration%20Test

The Proctor test itself consists of dropping a 2.5 kg hammer with 5.1 cm diameter face from a height of 0.30 m onto the soil specimen confined in a 10.2 cm diameter mould. The soil must be compacted in 3 equal layers, each to receive 25 blows of the hammer. 3, record 2, English, - Proctor%20test

4, record 2, French, - test%20de%20compactage%20Proctor

A trade name for a geotechnical process for compacting clean sands and gravel. The vibrations are produced by a cylinder ... which is lowered into the ground. The vibrations are combined with water jets at both ends of the cylinder to achieve a high degree of compaction. 1, record 3, English, - Vibroflotation
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Vibroflotation involves the use of a vibrating probe that can penetrate granular soil to depths of over 100 feet. The vibrations of the probe cause the grain structure to collapse thereby densifying the soil surrounding the probe. To treat an area of potentially liquefiable soil, the vibroflot is raised and lowered in a grid pattern. Vibro Replacement (right, HB) is a combination of vibroflotation with a gravel backfill resulting in stone columns, which not only increases the amount of densification, but provides a degree of reinforcement and a potentially effective means of drainage. 2, record 3, English, - Vibroflotation

Retention criterion .... Criteria for granular filters can be found in many text book on soil mechanics .... In these criteria, which have been drawn up on the basis of laboratory tests, a defined grain size is often compared with a pore diameter of the filter. The behaviour of soil material, especially in the case of cohesive soils, is a far too complicated phenomenon to be predicted only from the grain-size distribution. Because of this there is little to be gained by enumerating a large number of sometimes contradictory criteria for both granular and synthetic filter materials. 3, record 5, English, - retention%20criterion
Record number: 5, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Since there are three mechanisms through which a geotextile performs the filtration function, there should be three criteria for the relevant geotextile properties: 1. Criterion for minimum permeability ("permeability criterion") ... 2. Criterion for maximum opening size ("retention criterion") ... 3. Criterion for minimum percent open area (wovens) or minimum porosity (nonwovens) ("nonclogging criterion") .... 2, record 5, English, - retention%20criterion
