By happy contrast, dealing fully with words of grant requires less than a page. There are but three points worth mentioning. First, what verb should be used in a conveyance to pass an estate or interest in land? The answer is: any verb you like. Section 51(2) of the "Law of Property Act" 1925 provides that: 'The use of the word grant is not necessary to convey land or to create any interest therein.' Thus any appropriate word may be used, such as the customary "conveys" in a conveyance or, for example, "assents" in an assent. The lost modern grant is the second stage in the history of acquisition of an easement by presumed right.... As the basis for prescription at common law was the presumption of a grant which the law assumed to have been made prior to 1189, the difficulty in establishing a prescriptive title at common law was evaded by the court adopting the fiction that a grant in comparatively modern times would be presumed. A licence differs in its essentials from an assignment. A licence, even though exclusive, does not give the licensee all the rights of the patentee. A licence does not set up rights as between the licensee and the public, but only permits him to do acts that he would otherwise be prohibited from doing. He obtains merely a right of user. ... A licence prevents that from being unlawful which, but for the licence, would be unlawful; it is a consent by an owner of a right that another person should commit an act which, but for that licence, would be an infringement of the right of the person who gives the licence. 7, record 67, English, - licence

The spelling licence, though still often met with, has no justification in the case of the substantive. In the case of the verb, on the other hand, although the spelling licence is etymologically unobjectionable, license is supported by the analogy of the rule universally adopted in the similar pairs of related words, practice sb., practise vb, prophecy sb., prophecy vb. ... Recent dictionaries, however, almost universally have license both for substantive and verb, either without alternative or in the first place. 8, record 67, English, - licence

A Duma is any of various representative assemblies in modern Russia and Russian history. The State Duma in the Russian Empire and Russian Federation corresponds to the lower house of the parliament. It is also the term for a council to early Russian rulers (Boyar Duma), as well as for city councils in Imperial Russia (Municipal dumas), and city and regional legislative bodies in the Russian Federation. The term comes from the Russian word (dumat), "to think" or "to consider". Boyar Duma was an advisory council to the grand princes and tsars of Muscovy. The Duma was discontinued by Peter the Great, who transferred its functions to the Governing Senate in 1721. However, the Duma would be re-introduced later in Russian history by Tsar Nicholas II, in the pre-Revolutionary period (1905), with the aid of his many advisors such as Pyotr Stolypin, amongst others. 1, record 79, English, - Duma

1, record 79, French, - Douma

Compulsory Licences. Since it is the object of the patents system to encourage the development of new industries it would be pointless to allow an inventor to patent his invention and then do nothing about it and indeed prevent anyone else from making the new invention available to the public. Still worse would it be to allow him to prevent other inventors putting their inventions to work. Section 37 of the Patents Acts 1949, therefore, provides for "any person interested" to be entitled to apply for a licence under a patent at any time after the expiry of three years from the date of sealing of the patent, upon certain grounds. 3, record 92, English, - compulsory%20licence

2, record 92, French, - licence%20obligatoire
