COUCHE ANTI-HALO [4 records]

Record 1 2004-03-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Photography
  • Mathematical Geography
DEF

Halo formed round the image of bright points on negatives [and produced] by the reflection of scattered image light from the bottom of the support.

OBS

[Halation can be] seen in night photographs including street lamps and largely prevented by light absorbing coatings on the back plates.

Domaine(s)
  • Photographie
  • Géographie mathématique
DEF

Record 2 1999-02-23

English

Subject field(s)
  • Photography
  • Photoengraving
DEF

A coating or dye usually applied to the back of a film to absorb the light passing through the emulsion, thereby eliminating reflections from the supporting surface.

OBS

If the light is not absorbed, some of it is reflected and falls on the underside of the emulsion layer, causing halation [unwanted light reflection]. This coating is usually removed during processing.

Key term(s)
  • antihalo layer

French

Domaine(s)
  • Photographie
  • Photogravure
DEF

OBS

couche anti-halo : terme normalisé par l'AFNOR.

Key term(s)
  • couche antireflet

Record 3 1999-02-23

English

Subject field(s)
  • Photography
  • Types of Documentation (Library Science)
  • Cinematography
DEF

A layer on the back of a film base that counteracts curling and halation, i.e. unwanted light reflection.

CONT

A backing layer on the rear of the film base counteracts curling. Usually it contains also a nearly opaque dye to suppress light reflection on the rear support surface. Such reflection (halation) reduces definition by causing halolike effects around very bright image points.

Key term(s)
  • pelloid

French

Domaine(s)
  • Photographie
  • Documentation (Bibliothéconomie)
  • Cinématographie
DEF

Record 4 1985-12-16

English

Subject field(s)
  • Micrographics
DEF

a layer usually made of gelatin, applied to the side of the film base opposite that of the emulsion to prevent curl. It is comparable to the emulsion layer in thickness and is not removed in processing. (Antihalation or other layers removed in processing are excluded from this definition).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Micrographie
DEF
