The Alpine Skiing World Cup is a circuit of alpine skiing competitions regulated by the FIS. Held at ski resorts across Europe, the continental US, and Canada, competitors compete to achieve the best time in four disciplines: Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super-G, and Downhill. After every race, points are awarded to the top 30 athletes - The athlete with the most points at the end of the season wins the cup. Sub-prizes are also awarded for athletes with the most point totals in each individual race discipline. The World Cup is held every year, and is considered the premier competition for alpine ski racing after the tetrannual Winter Olympics. Many consider the World Cup to be a more valuable title than the Olympics or the biannual World Championships, since it requires a competitor to ski at an extremely high level in several disciplines throughout the season (and not just in one race). 1, record 6, English, - Alpine%20Skiing%20World%20Cup

1, record 6, French, - Coupe%20du%20monde%20du%20ski%20alpin

The "World Men's Curling Championship" (singular because only one men's team is crowned champion) is named after the sponsor of the event or the trophy given. The World Men's Curling Championship began in 1959 as a competition between the Canadian and Scottish national champions for the "Scotch Cup" (1959-1967). The event became the "Air Canada Silver Broom" or simply the "Silver Broom" (or "Air Canada Silver Broom World Curling Championship," "Air Canada World Curling Championship," or "Silver Broom World Curling Championship") from 1968 to 1985, years during which the Silver Broom Trophy was given to the winner. Different sponsors or the lack of a main sponsor account for the following names: "Hexagon World Curling Championships" from 1986 to 1988, "World Curling Championships" in 1989 and 1990, "Canada Safeway World Curling Championships" in 1991 and 1992, again the "World Curling Championships" in 1993 and 1994, and the "Ford World Curling Championships" since 1995. 1, record 8, English, - World%20Men%27s%20Curling%20Championships

The expression "World Men's Curling Championship" is singular when only one champion is crowned, which was the case for the curling competition from 1959 to 1978. Since 1979, the plural form "World Curling Championships" is used because the same competition determines the winner in the men's, senior men's, women's and senior women's categories; this generic designation was and will be used every time no official sponsor gives its name to the event. Nevertheless, "World Men's Curling Championship" is still appropriate to distinguish the men's event inside the "World Curling Championships.". 1, record 8, English, - World%20Men%27s%20Curling%20Championships

The greatest of the international soccer competitions representing world supremacy in the sport. It is open to any country that is affiliated with FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), and the finals are played every four years, between the Summer Olympic Games' years. The competition is essentially open, but each nation is generally represented by its best professional players. The entries (more than 100) are reduced to 14 teams by a series of regional play-offs; along with the defending champions and the host country, they make up the final 16. The final rounds are played in the host country over a period of about three weeks.

3, record 21, French, - Coupe%20du%20monde

Essentially, a “one piece” composite stick is a composite shaft fused together with a composite blade. The joint created above the heel is then sanded down and the entire stick is painted in a flowing one-piece design so that it appears that the [ice hockey] stick is “one piece”, although, in reality, it is a two-piece fused product. 2, record 22, English, - composite%20stick

During 2001, the higher-priced segment of the stick market shifted from wooden sticks to the more technically advanced composite sticks. These sticks, which are made from a combination of various fibres, including glass fibre, carbon and aramid, have quite a few advantages over wooden sticks. A composite stick [for field hockey] is made in a mould. Once the mould has been engineered, every stick produced from that mould will have exactly the same design and will therefore be consistent. 3, record 22, English, - composite%20stick

Conventional airborne gravimeters are essentially one-axis instruments which determine the magnitude of gravity by using a highly accurate accelerometer in flight to measure the magnitude of gravity along the local vertical. Although horizontal accelerometers are used on the platform, they are generally of poorer accuracy and are only suitable for supporting the alignment process. They cannot give the direction of the vertical with comparable accuracy. Thus, the term scalar gravimetry is used in this case. This is different with airborne gravity systems based on the principle of measuring the specific force vector by a three-axes inertial system and the aircraft acceleration vector by differential GPS. In this case, the three accelerometers of the inertial system are of the same accuracy and the three acceleration components of the aircraft show only small differences in accuracy due to the geometry of the GPS constellation. Thus, three components of each vector can be estimated with high accuracy and the full gravity disturbance vector can be obtained by differencing the specific force and the aircraft acceleration vector. 2, record 23, English, - specific%20force%20vector
