2, record 13, French, - g%C3%A9othermie%20profonde

The exploration department at Cogema Resources ... recognized the technical difficulties and expense encountered in drilling deep vertical holes. The solution was a technique called navigational drilling (or Navi-drilling) that was used in the oil industry and, less often, in mining. ... Simply put, navi-drilling allows operators to begin drilling a new hole 500 to 600 metres below the surface by using a pre-existing "pilot hole." This significantly reduces costs as the same hole is used for up to six navi-drilling holes. A steerable motor with a rotor system turns a cutting bit. The motor is powered by hydraulic force created by the mixture of water and drilling muds pumped inside the drill string. The fluid is pumped through the motor and returns to the surface at a rate of up to 250 litres per minute. [Followed by an illustration of a schematic cross-section showing navi-drilling holes.] 2, record 28, English, - navigational%20drilling

Newbergh Industries Limited ("Newbergh") has developed and patented a technology which will greatly enhance the steering currently being used in oil and gas field directional drilling. This technology, which is known under the acronym of "HANDS", which stands for Hydraulic Activated Navigational Drilling System, will be incorporated in a so-called benthousing, which will make this piece of equipment remote adjustable whilst drilling for the first time. Its implication will improve drilling performance in terms of speed as well as quality and will result in considerable cost savings for the oil companies and savings in energy to drill the bore holes. 6, record 28, English, - navigational%20drilling

2, record 49, French, - hydrate%20de%20gaz

Cable-tool drilling consists in pulverizing the rock formation a little at a time by alternately raising and dropping a heavy cutting tool called a bit, thereby driving a hole into the earth. Early wells were drilled with impact-type tools, in a method called cable-tool drilling, in which a chisel-like bit was suspended from a cable to a lever at the surface, and an up-and-down motion of the lever caused the bit to pound the bottom of the hole and chip away the rock. Such drilling had to be interrupted periodically to allow loose rock chips to be removed with a basket-like device. 5, record 50, English, - cable%2Dtool%20drilling

A continental method of shaft sinking through sand which is water-bearing. The shaft is formed by boring in stages, increasing in sizes from the pilot hole of about 4 feet in diameter to the final excavation size. Once the shaft is bored, mud flush circulation continues while the lining is lowered. The lining consists of two steel cylinders, one within the other, and the annular space is filled with concrete. The cylinders are lowered into the shaft and 10-foot lengths are added and welded in position at the shaft top. 1, record 82, English, - Honigmann%20process

2, record 82, French, - proc%C3%A9d%C3%A9%20Honigmann
