Manque d’hydratation d’un béton dû à l’absorption de l’eau par les granulats.

Le faible rapport E/C du béton de recouvrement obtenu avec Zemdrain [MC] confère une durabilité accrue aux structures en béton, sans traitement particulier et sans utilisation d’adjuvants chimiques. [...] Zemdrain ne draine pas plus d’eau que nécessaire, car il n’ a pas d’effet aspirant(buvard). Le drainage s’opère par pression hydrostatique et gravitation. La quantité d’eau drainée et le temps de drainage nécessaires dépendent du niveau d’eau excédentaire, des adjuvants et des types de liants utilisés. Note : une portion de l'eau excédentaire est retenue dans la structure de Zemdrain. Cette eau sera réabsorbée par le béton après quelques heures et participera à la phase initiale du processus de cure.

Les matériaux poreux et notamment les granulats légers devront être humidifiés avant utilisation afin d’éviter «l’effet buvard» qui risque de diminuer rapidement la consistance du béton et d’empêcher, par la suite, l’hydratation complète du ciment. (Annales de l’ITBTP, 8905, no 474, p. 96).
