A centre-pivot irrigation system consists of a number of self-propelled towers supporting a pipeline rotating around a pivot point. Water supplied at the pivot point flows radially outward for distribution by sprayers or sprinklers located along the pipeline. The water is usually delivered to the pivot point by an underground pipeline with the pump located in the corner or on the side of the field. 1, record 1, English, - centre%2Dpivot%20irrigation%20system

Aquatic weeds can be grouped by the following categories: algae, and emersed, floating, submersed and marginal (shoreline) weeds. Algae are green, stringy mats, sometimes called "pond scum". Algae are primitive plants without leaves, stems or roots. Emersed aquatic weeds generally are rooted in the soil, with part of the plant growing above the water surface. ... Floating aquatic weeds are seed-bearing plants that float freely on the surface of the water or have leaves that float on the surface, connected by long stems to roots in the lake bottom. Submersed aquatic weeds are rooted in the soil and the entire plant is under the surface of the water. Some submersed aquatic weeds have flowers that emerge above the water surface. The commercially-available sling pump consists of a helically-wound hose within a drum-shapedbody that has a propeller at the front. A swivel coupling at the front end of the pump allows the body of the pump to rotate freely without affecting the discharge pipe. Water flowing past the propeller at the front of the unit sets the entire body of the pump in a slow rotational motion. Alternating slugs of air and water enter the intake of the spiral hose and are forced along the pipe by the rotational motion of the pump. The sling pump can also be powered by the wind, instead of flowing water. Because the swivel coupling is the only mechanical component comprising the pump, it is virtually maintenance-free. 2, record 35, English, - sling%20pump

3, record 62, French, - submersion

Subirrigation (seepage) systems are based on establishment and maintenance of the high water table just beneath the crop root zone. Due to the capillary action the water migrates upward providing necessary moisture for the crop. For this system to function, the top layer of soil must have high hydraulic conductivity typical for sand or muck. The existence of natural high water table or restrictive layer (clay, rock, etc.) below the root zone is necessary to allow for the buildup and regulation of the irrigation water table throughout the season. Raising the water table in addition to providing for the evapotranspirational demand of the crop, requires large quantities of water which must also be available for seepage irrigation. 6, record 67, English, - subsurface%20irrigation

Microsprayers, also called mini-sprinklers or spitters, are similar in principle to drip systems in that water is applied only to a fraction of the ground surface. However, instead of dripping water from narrow-orifice emitters, microsprayer systems eject fine jets that fan out from a series of nozzles. Each nozzle can water an area of several square metres, which tends to be much larger than the individual areas wetted by single drip emitters. Microsprayers can thus help to enlarge the volume of soil available for the uptake of water and nutrients by crop roots (thereby obviating the need for multiple drippers). Enlarging the wetted volume is especially important for large trees. 2, record 72, English, - spitter

Irrigation scheduling is the process of determining when to irrigate and how much water to apply. It depends upon design, maintenance, and operation of the irrigation system and the availability of water. The objective of irrigation scheduling is to apply only the water that the crop needs, taking into account evaporation, seepage, and runoff losses, and leaching requirements. Scheduling is especially important to pump irrigators if power costs are high. Common irrigation scheduling approaches include the following: 1. Subsurface drip irrigation is a variation of traditional drip irrigation where the tubing and emitters are buried beneath the soil surface, rather than laid on the ground or suspended from wires. The products being used today in subsurface drip irrigation come in three basic configurations: hard hose, drip tape, and porous tubing. ... With drip tapes, the tubing wall thickness from 0.1 to 0.5 mm (4-20 mils). The thinner materials are more commonly found in single season or throw away applications, typical of strawberry production. The heavier wall materials ranging from 0.35 to 0.50 mm (15-20 mils) are more commonly found in multi-year applications or where the extra strength is required due to stones or other problems identified at the field site. 3, record 83, English, - drip%20tape

Irrigation is a term used to describe the process of watering farmland by diverting water from natural sources to designated areas. The diversion of water is developed and controlled within what is called an irrigation district. An irrigation district is responsible for maintaining a water supply to farmers in a certain area. This is accomplished by using a water source such as a river and diverting it through a system of dams, reservoirs, and canals that eventually deliver water right to the farmers' fields. 2, record 90, English, - irrigation%20season

1, record 96, French, - fr%C3%A9quence%20d%27arrosage
