Le séparateur d’huile CPS est l'alternative optimale là où se trouvent concentrées des hydrocarbures émulsionnés(nettoyage à l'eau sous haute pression mais sans produits dissolvant l'huile). Le séparateur d’huile CPS combine l'effet de séparation par gravité et par coalescence. L'astuce est en l'occurrence que les plaques de coalescence faites d’un matériau oléophile retiennent les gouttes d’huile. Le principe est le suivant : les grosses particules d’huile montent déjà à la surface dans la chambre d’entrée. Le mélange huile-eau plus fin traverse alors les plaques de coalescence ondulées, ce qui produit un écoulement laminaire et pulsateur. Cet écoulement force les gouttes d’huile les plus petites(qui ne montent que légèrement) à se réunir pour former de plus grosses gouttes. Elles se coalisent et montent jusqu'à la plaque oléophile la plus proche, où elles sont retenues. Les ouvertures pratiquées au sommet de la partie ondulée permettent la montée de ces gouttes d’huile rassemblées et une couche d’huile se forme à la surface de l'eau.
