Primary disinfection is the application of a disinfectant in the drinking water treatment plant, with a primary objective to achieve the necessary microbial inactivation. The efficacy of disinfection using chlorine can be predicted based on a knowledge of the residual free chlorine concentration, temperature, pH, and contact time. This relationship is commonly referred to as the CT concept and is used by public drinking water suppliers as one tool for ensuring adequate inactivation of organisms during disinfection. CT is the product of the residual concentration of disinfectant (C), measured in mg/L at the outlet of the contact chamber, and the disinfectant contact time (T), measured in minutes. The CT values required to achieve the necessary inactivation will depend on the microorganism targeted, pH, and temperature. 1, record 1, English, - CT%20concept

Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT

Free products and dissolved petroleum components from the surface of the contaminated aquifer are captured and treated via multi-phase extraction & treatment. Following air/liquid separation the liquid phase is treated by a combination of oil/water separation, air stripping, and liquid phase carbon treatment before being discharged. The advantages of multi-phase extraction & treatment include: a high product to groundwater extraction ratio; aeration of the vadose zone which enhances natural biodegradation of the hydrocarbon contaminants; all treatment components may be housed in a turn-key mobile remedial unit; a simple product recovery technology which can be transferred to conventional remedial applications such as pump and treat, sparging and vapour extraction system (VES) applications. SCG specializes in environmental remediation and has focused on groundwater treatment and soil remediation through the development, manufacture, sale and distribution of environmental remediation equipment. For sites where free hydrocarbon product is present in the subsurface, the relatively new bioslurping technology may provide a timely and cost effective remedial solution. SCG has developed an advanced innovative remedial option in which light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs), hydrocarbon contaminated groundwater and volatile constituents in soil vapours are aggressively captured and subsequently treated in-situ via Multi Phase Vacuum Extraction and Treatment (MPVET). This system is suited for the capture of a full range of petroleum hydrocarbon contaminants (gasoline to heavy oils) and a variety of subsurface conditions (low permeability coupled with low hydraulic yield to moderate permeability coupled with high hydraulic yield). 1, record 56, English, - multi%2Dphase%20vacuum%20extraction%20and%20treatment

Hydrogen bonds ... play a major part in holding together different regions of polypeptide chain in a folded protein molecule, and they are crucially important for many of the binding interactions observed on protein surfaces. Once they are outside the cytoplasm, secreted or cell-surface proteins often form additional covalent intrachain bonds. For example, the formation of disulfide bonds (also called S-S bridges) between neighboring cysteine-SH groups in a folded polypeptide chain frequently serves to stabilize the three-dimensional structure of extracellular proteins, although they are not required for the specific folding of the molecule. 3, record 58, English, - polypeptide%20chain

Emphasis is on the interaction of current-free monochromatic surface wave fields with uniform current fields in a three-dimensional flow frame. ... Specifically this will require numerical analysis knowledge to develop the computational formulations of the problem, to discretize these formulations, to write the algorithms and the relevant Matlab codes and to perform the required validation tests and simulations of the resulting solutions. In addition, a robust knowledge of the relatively new field of waveform relaxation and related methods will be essential, as well as extensive practical knowledge of Matlab and Maple programming environments. ... To estimate pollutant concentration in a river downstream from a spill, the turbulent diffusion has been modelled. ... The one-dimensional model uses an idealized rectangular channel section and assumes a uniform concentration of the pollutant throughout the section. Obviously, this applies only to points sufficiently far downstream of the spill where mixing and dilution have distributed the pollutant across the entire river channel. 2, record 90, English, - channel
