1, record 1, French, - analyse%20des%20temp%C3%AAtes

Estuarine marshes are confined to intertidal and supratidal zones of estuaries. Water levels are subjected to tidal changes but water levels do not change as greatly as in other tidal marshes. There is a major input of freshwater in these marshes which makes estuarine marsh waters brackish to fresh. Vegetation develops in zones in response to variations in slope, water depth and salinity gradient. Water is brackish or fresh. 1, record 26, English, - estuarine%20marsh

Record number: 40, Textual support number: 1 CONT
One of the most notable characteristics of an estuary is the differing gradients of salinity that are present ... These gradients may appear both horizontally and vertically within the water column. Under flood tide conditions the layer of surface water coming into the estuary is moving at a faster rate than the bottom layer. As the tidal waters come in contact with the fresh water moving out of the river, the more dense salt water sinks to the bottom causing the fresh water to rise. The result of this tidal movement is a mixing of the fresh and salt water from the top to the bottom referred to as tidal over-mixing, and a salt water "wedge" being formed. The wedge is narrowest at the head of the river and it broadens out towards the mouth of the river. 6, record 40, English, - salt%2Dwater%20wedge

Tidal energy can be converted to mechanical and subsequently electrical form in several ways. The most common is to utilize a single natural basin that experiences tidal flow. The mouth of the basin is blocked by a dam that contains sluice gates and hydroelectric turbogenerators. In operation, water enters the basin through open sluice gates. At high tide the gates are closed. When the tide ebbs sufficiently water is released through the hydroturbines to generate electricity. 1, record 47, English, - tidal%20energy

One of the quickest and most convenient methods of raising sunken vessels, particularly smaller ones up to l000 tons (283,000 m3) or so, is the use of heavy lift cranes. ... A similar technique involves the use of heavy lift craft ... the lift craft take on ballast water to increase their draft. At low tide, the wires are pulled tight on the deck of the lift craft. 1, record 74, French, - havre
