"Canadian maritime law" as defined in s 2 of the Federal Court Act is a comprehensive body of federal law dealing with all claims in respect of maritime and admiralty matters. The scope of Canadian maritime law is not limited by the scope of English admiralty law at the time of its adoption into Canadian law in 1934. Rather, the word "maritime" is to be interpreted within the modern context of commerce and shipping, and the ambit of Canadian maritime law should be considered limited only by the constitutional division of powers in the Constitution Act, 1867. The test for determining whether a subject matter under consideration is within maritime law requires a finding that the subject matter is so integrally connected to maritime matters as to be legitimate Canadian maritime law within federal competence 2, record 14, English, - Canadian%20maritime%20law

2, record 14, French, - droit%20maritime%20canadien

With the recent installation of the current machine in the IMD (Institute of Marine Dynamics) Offshore Engineering Basin and industry's need to investigate the effects of structure in shallow water waves and current, there is a requirement to develop modeling technique in this area. The Offshore Engineering Basin, illustrated in Figure 1, is a reinforced concrete structure 75 m in length, 32 m wide with a wall height of 4 m. Water levels may be varied up to a depth of 3.0 m. The entire basin, including the working area surrounding the basin, is serviced by a 5 tonne overhead crane. Waves are generated by means of a segment wave machine, of wet back design, in a fixed "L" configuration. Each segment supports a 2 m high by 0.5 m wide wave board. These segments are grouped together in sections of four and each section is vertically adjustable to accommodate water depths from 0.4 m to 3.0 m. Adjustments are made via electrically powered jacks. Each segment can be operated in five modes of articulation: flapper ("20 degrees), piston ("400 mm) or three combinations of flapper and piston. These modes optimise segment motion for generating waves in deep, shallow and intermediate water depths, respectively. 3, record 27, English, - offshore%20engineering%20basin

1, record 27, French, - bassin%20d%27essais%20technique%20extrac%C3%B4tier

Large quantities of drugs enter our country by boat each year. Drug smuggling is big business, often involving many people and a lot of money and equipment. Fortunately, such large-scale operations can be readily detected by those familiar with normal marine activity. The RCMP's Coastal Watch Program, in the fight against drug importation, wants to enlist the eyes of people in coastal communities. The program goal is two-fold: To teach people what to look for, and to help them effectively transmit any information to the appropriate law enforcement agency. If you are a recreational or professional boater, fuel dock attendant, or vessel broker, or if you live or work near the water, you can play a vital role in the Coastal Watch Program. By reporting suspicious or illegal activities, you can help cut the flow of illicit drugs to our youth and to the rest of the community. 1, record 29, English, - Coastal%20Watch%20Program

1, record 38, French, - jet%C3%A9e
