Rice cultivation is well suited to countries and regions with low labour costs and high rainfall, as it is very labour-intensive to cultivate and requires plenty of water for irrigation ... Rice is the world's third largest crop, behind maize (corn) and wheat. Although its species are native to South Asia and certain parts of Africa, centuries of trade and exportation have made it commonplace in many cultures. 9, record 2, English, - rice%20cultivation

The composition of the atmosphere -its gases and particles- plays a critical role in connecting human welfare with global and regional changes because the atmosphere links all of the principal components of the Earth system. 4, record 12, English, - composition%20of%20the%20atmosphere

Present Composition of the Atmosphere. The atmosphere is comprised of gases which are considered to be permanent (gases which remain essentially constant by percent) and gases considered to be variable (gases which have changing concentrations over a finite period of time). PERMANENT gases in the atmosphere by percent are: Nitrogen = 78.1%; Oxygen = 20.9%. Note that these two permanent gases together comprise 99% of the atmosphere. Other permanent gases: Argon = 0.9%; Neon = 0.002%; Helium = 0.0005%; Krypton = 0.0001%; Hydrogen = 0.00005%. VARIABLE gases in the atmosphere and typical percentage values are: Water vapor = 0 to 4%; Carbon Dioxide = 0.035%; Methane = 0.0002%; Ozone = 0.000004%. 5, record 12, English, - composition%20of%20the%20atmosphere

4, record 12, French, - composition%20de%20l%27atmosph%C3%A8re

The downspout takes the water from the gutter and down to the drainage pipe or splash block on the ground ... If your downspout drains into an underground drain pipe, it is wise to use some kind of stainer in the eavestrough to prevent debris from clogging the underground pipe. If you do not use underground drainage, use a piece of downspout and an elbow to direct the water away from the house and dump onto a splash block. 3, record 13, English, - splash%20block

Rain and melted snow on the roof are collected by the eavestroughs and channeled to the ground by downspouts. In the expansive floodplains of the Niger River in Mali farmers have grown rice for many centuries. This peculiar "African rice", or Oryza glaberrima, evolved here before the arrival of humans. Its make-up includes genetic traits essential for survival. Its stalk grows in pace with the rising water, keeping its panicle (seed head) afloat; it can cope with dehydration stress after the waters recede; and it shatters seed when mature. 2, record 15, English, - floating%20rice

2, record 15, French, - riz%20flottant
