Usually, a ladder allows fish to swim past a barrier aided by river water flowing in from the top. ... work is being done to create an artificial stream of water through the fish ladder. Starting with a series of large pumps supplying water or "attractant flow[,"] fish looking for an alternative route over the slide will be lured upstream into the pools. As fish swim further, they will end up in a holding pool at the same elevation as the fish pump. The use of a fish ladder encourages "volitional entry[,"] or natural fish behavior whereby they willingly enter the pneumatic fish pump. 1, record 3, English, - holding%20pool

4, record 12, French, - purgeur%20%C3%A0%20flotteur%20invers%C3%A9%20ouvert

Upright Bucket Trap. The discharge of condensate from this trap is intermittent. A differential pressure of at least 1 psi [pound per square inch] between the inlet and the outlet of the trap is normally required to lift the condensate from the bucket to the discharge connection. Upright bucket traps are commonly used to drain condensate and air from the blast coils, steam mains, unit heaters and other equipment. Some water level recorders utilize a float on the surface of the water which is attached to a moveable gear in the recorder. A rise or fall of the water surface causes the float to rise or fall. This rotates the gear and the movement is recorded. Other water level gauges monitor either relative or absolute pressure at a point under the water surface. This pressure measurement can then be converted to height of the water surface. Still other water level recorders monitor the travel time of sound waves generated and received at a point above the water surface.

In certain circumstances it may be desirable to shape the ground to allow surface water to collect in a water storage pond on site. This concept of retaining surface water run-off by reducing the peak water impact on the storm sewer capacity and by providing an attractive site feature, may be economical on large sites. It may also be possible to use a less expensive underground sewer system with fewer or smaller diameter pipes because the peak water impact will be collected by the retention pond instead of the sewer system. 2, record 45, English, - retention%20pond

Irrigation scheduling is the process of determining when to irrigate and how much water to apply. It depends upon design, maintenance, and operation of the irrigation system and the availability of water. The objective of irrigation scheduling is to apply only the water that the crop needs, taking into account evaporation, seepage, and runoff losses, and leaching requirements. Scheduling is especially important to pump irrigators if power costs are high. Common irrigation scheduling approaches include the following: 1. Irrigation on fixed intervals or following a simple calendar, i.e., when a water turn occurs or according to a predetermined schedule. 1, record 51, English, - irrigation%20on%20fixed%20intervals

In the expansive floodplains of the Niger River in Mali farmers have grown rice for many centuries. This peculiar "African rice", or Oryza glaberrima, evolved here before the arrival of humans. Its make-up includes genetic traits essential for survival. Its stalk grows in pace with the rising water, keeping its panicle (seed head) afloat; it can cope with dehydration stress after the waters recede; and it shatters seed when mature. 2, record 60, English, - floating%20rice

10, record 69, French, - ouvrage%20de%20g%C3%A9nie%20civil
