Transpiration. [...] 2, record 2, French, - transpiration

The process of debris movement in periglacial regions has been variously defined and a number of terms have been suggested. First J.G. Anderson (1906) proposed the term "solifluction" (solum-soil, fluere-flow) for slow movement of debris, soaked with water, from higher to lower slopes. Solifluction term was replaced by "congelifluction" of J. Daylik (1951) to incorporate only soilflow in the periglacial climate having permafrost lying below an active layer. K. Bryan (1946) used the term "cryoturbation" which included all types of mass-movement of regolith under periglacial environment. Recently, "gelifluction" is used in place of "congelifluction." 5, record 9, English, - gelifluction

At particular temperature and pressure, state of moist air whose mixing ratio is such that the moist air can co-exist in neutral equilibrium with an associated condensed phase (liquid or solid) at the same temperature and pressure, the surface of separation being plane. 2, record 10, English, - saturation
Record number: 10, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Usage has provided two closely related but importantly different conceptions of the term saturation (a) One is the condition in which the vapor pressure exerted by water vapor is equal to the saturation vapor pressure at the prevailing temperature. This definition implies the presence of a plane surface of pure liquid water or ice, and thus is a condition dependent upon the temperature only, irrespective of actual environment. Since, in nature, such a "plane surface of pure water" is rarely found and the physico-chemical environment of water vapor is anything but constant, this strict concept of saturation can be very misleading with regard to actual condensation processes; but the conservative base which this definition supplies is required as a comparison standard (as for relative humidity measurements). More specific terminology is often advisedly used, like "saturation with respect to water" or "saturation with respect to ice". (b) The other is the condition in which the vapor pressure of water vapor is equal to the equilibrium vapor pressure under the existing environmental conditions (temperature; and shape, size and composition of adjacent matter)... It should be clear that saturation should always be defined "with respect to" an intended environment, either standard (as in a above) or actual. 3, record 10, English, - saturation

Knowing plant water status is useful, but to appreciate how the plant responds to drought we should also monitor some process within the plant. Given that most water is lost from the plant when it opens stomatal pores to photosynthesize, we might hypothesise that stomatal opening is somehow correlated with plant water status. The degree of stomatal opening can be measured with a diffusion porometer. As the name implies, the diffusion porometer measures the rate at which water vapour diffuses out of the leaf, mainly through stomatal pores. The greater the number of these pores and the wider their apertures, the faster will be the rate of water vapour diffusion for given conditions. By measuring this rate of diffusion and knowing the conditions which are driving it, we can calculate stomatal resistance to diffusion of water vapour (or its reciprocal, stomatal conductance). 2, record 20, English, - porometer

The Bergeron-Findeisen process describes how ice crystals grow at the expense of supercooled water droplets in a water-saturated environment. This process is of particular importance in mid- to high latitudes where clouds routinely extend upward to subfreezing temperatures. Determining the ratio of supercooled droplets to ice crystals and the rate at which a cloud becomes glaciated aids a forecaster's ability to predict winter precipitation types and amounts.

Saturation is the condition in which the vapor pressure exerted by water vapor is equal to the saturation vapor pressure at the prevailing temperature. 1, record 54, English, - saturation%20with%20respect%20to%20ice
