Carbonisation à basse température. Au cours des cinquante dernières années, de nombreux essais ont été entrepris en vue de carboniser le charbon à des températures relativement basses : 500 à 700 °C, au lieu des températures de plus de 1 100 °C que l'on utilise dans les fours à coke traditionnels.
