Primordial prevention consists of actions to modify population health determinants and to inhibit the establishment of factors (environmental, economic, social, and behavioural) known to increase the risk of future disease. It targets determinants at the societal level rather than modifying personal risk factors, which is the focus of primary prevention. Thus, outlawing alcohol in certain countries would represent primordial prevention, whereas a campaign against drinking and driving would illustrate primary prevention. 2, record 1, English, - primordial%20prevention

2, record 1, French, - pr%C3%A9vention%20primordiale

A steering wheel, developed by BITS of Atlanta, that monitors drivers' blood-alcohol level and prevents them from driving when drunk. It has optical sensors embedded around the rim of the wheel and a membrane treated with a chemical that reacts to perspiration from driver's hands continuously registering changes in the level of acidity in the sweat. When these levels rise above the normal range, the optical sensors note the danger color and the car engine shuts off.
